☀Good morning! ☕
🔥 Imagine your home caught fire.
After everyone was safe, and the firefighters had gone…
What is the one ordinary thing you’d wish someone had managed to save?
Not the expensive thing.
Not the practical thing.
💙 The thing that would quietly break your heart if it disappeared.
That question came up at a neighborhood dinner a few evenings ago. 🍽
Someone asked, almost casually…
💬 “What’s the one thing you’ll never throw away?”
The room fell silent.
It’s remarkable how quickly a simple question can turn adults into children remembering old stories. 💭
We decided to go around the room.
Alfred spoke first.
He didn’t simply describe his first bicycle. 🚲
He relived it.
The scraped knees.
The dent in the frame.
The hill he was convinced he could conquer.
The scar on his arm that still refuses to let him forget.
Within minutes, we weren’t listening to a story about a bicycle anymore.
✨ We were listening to a young boy discovering freedom.
That’s the strange thing about objects.
Very few are valuable because of what they’re made of.
❤Most become priceless because they quietly collect pieces of our lives.
A faded concert ticket. 🎟
A chipped coffee mug. ☕
Your father’s old watch that no longer keeps time. ⌚
A handwritten recipe in your grandmother’s unmistakable handwriting. 📝
Anthropologists often say humans are storytelling creatures.
I’d go one step further.
🏡 We turn ordinary objects into tiny museums.
Every stain becomes evidence that someone laughed, traveled, loved, failed, celebrated, or simply lived.
When my turn came, I admitted I’d kept a red shirt. 👕
It’s the shirt I wore on one of my earliest dates with Anne. ❤
It has long since lost its color.
But every time I see it, I’m reminded that some of life’s biggest stories begin with wonderfully ordinary moments.
💙 Maybe that’s why we keep certain things long after they’ve served any practical purpose.
We’re not preserving the object.
✨ We’re preserving a version of ourselves.
☕ So here’s something to wonder over with your morning coffee…
❓ What’s one thing you’ll never throw away, and what memory makes it impossible to let go?
💭 What story about your life would they discover?
I’d genuinely love to hear yours.
